So I've been working my butt off in the studio and I've been making some independent videos. I have some new photos and I feel very pleased with my material.
Where do you go from here???
It's very tricky to know in which direction to go once you have your material in your hands but no manager, agent or contact to turn to. But those contacts are essential, so it becomes imperative to network, research and find out where you belong as an artist.
I am now in the process of getting my press kit together. No easy feat, believe me! If you ask different people in the business, they will all have their opinions of what a great press kit should look like. My impression so far is that the layout is secondary, what matters is that you have a great product and that you can sell it without all the superfluous hype. Being completely objective about your own project can be difficult. It's your baby! But everyone agrees that keeping it straightforward and professional is the way to go. The material should speak for itself.
If you believe in your material and your talent, then it's a question of making the content of your press kit true to your artist self. I got a great piece of advice recently and it was that regardless of how many times I got a "no", not to change myself, because if you have talent, you might not be the artist for that label or agent, but it's a matter of finding the place you belong.
So that's where I am right now. I'll keep you posted once I've advanced in this stage.
Wish me luck!
