Robyn Reclaims her Identity En Route to Pop Stardom

A funny thing happened when Robyn emerged with Robyn: a new round of fans, tastemakers, and label heads perked up at the sound of her material, which was ripe with a confidence and sass absent from her previous work. Once American ears — after four years — caught up with 'tude-laden should-be-hits like "Handle Me," "Cobrastyle," and "Be Mine," Robyn followed with her 2010 Body Talk series of three EPs, each recorded during a break from her world tours. The result has been a Robyn resurgence; and if her songs haven't quite topped Billboard yet, her profile here in America is stratospheric for a late-'90s Europop star, with Body Talk and power anthems like "Dancing on My Own" and "Hang with Me" topping critics' year-end charts.

Yet she hasn't lost sight of where she wants to go. "Hopefully, I'm getting closer and closer to what is the core of what I'm doing. The goal isn't to reinvent anything, it's to peel away what is unnecessary."
