When I heard about the NYC trip I didn't think much of going because its roughly 600 miles away. However when I discovered that Robyn was playing the famed Radio City Music Hall my interest immediately was peaked and going to this show was a must. I was proud to be the guy in Detroit at the club watching her perform to 100 people as if she was in front of a Radio City Music Hall crowd and I was proud to be the guy watching her perform to an actual Radio City Music Hall Crowd.
Prior to the show the Cherrytree Staff were gracious enough to meet with everyone at a place called the Playwright on 49th Street. They ordered appetizers and I thank them very much for their hospitality. Many rec'ers were there and some I was able to meet for the first time like VuDu and Kid Old School. I was able to see Christine Wo and Irina again. I had a toast with Martin and as you can see from Andrea's pic she has some aura...or something..
My seats were not close enough for great pictures but this trip was more about the experience. Natalia Kills opened the show with an acoustic version of Mirrors. She followed that with Wonderland, Love is a Suicide and Mirrors. She puts on a great show dragging her dancers by the hair across the stage. The key as well is she sings, no lip sync and her voice live is perfect.
Robyn adjusted her set list for this show kicking it off with "Time Machine". As far as the set goes the interesting thing about Robyn is that she is now starting to get a strong foothold in the United States and her body of work is such that seeing her live is like watching a greatest hits compilation though its all new to recent fans. Other songs on the set list included Fembots, Cobrastyle, Dancing on my Own, We Dance to the Beat/Don't Fuc*king Tell What to Do, Love Kills, Girl and the Robot, Indestructible, Call Your Girlfriend, Stars 4-Ever. Encores included Dance Hall Queen, Hang with Me, With Every Heartbeat. I had to take a phone call but I could swear I heard the new version of Show Me Love that she has been doing live. When you see her live you get a great live show, she sings beautifully for someone dancing around constantly.
