Robyn and Natalia Kills - Royal Oak Theater - Detroit MI. 06/04/11 & Lifestyles Pavilion -Columbus OH. 06/05/11.

I had the pleasure to experience a Natalia Kills/Robyn marathon over the weekend thanks to the rescheduling of two canceled shows. Saturday June 4 was a Detroit MI. show and Sunday June 5 was a Columbus OH. show.

Natalia Kills

I have seen Natalia Kills a few times now. This set showed me the evolution of her live act with the addition of live musicians. A keyboard player and drummer were added which to me gave her a more human feel to the music. In my opinion the sound quality of prerecorded is never as good as actual instruments plugged in that can be allocated to their own channel in the mix and independently controlled versus 2 tracks with a predetermined mix etc. It was nice to see one of her dancers return to the fold that I remember seeing on stage with her the first time I had seen Natalia.

The new set list also included a cover of the Bruno Mars hit “Grenade”. It was a pleasant surprise to see the addition of a new song from Perfectionist called “Nothing Lasts Forever”.

Robyn

Robyn has a very very strong catalog of work so when you see her show, if your a fan of Robyn you will know pretty much every song she performs. The song she threw in to the set list this time that surprised me was the addition of the song “Bad Gal”which was the bonus track for those who bought Body Talk 2 from Itunes.

Robyn blistered through that set like it was a work out. Just as her music is uniquely her, the choreography is uniquely her as well. Robyn has yet to disappoint and in Detroit as well as Columbus, she was the people's Queen. I loved standing in line for the show watching all the homemade Robyn shirts and Natalia shirts go by. The fans are so devoted and knew all the words Robyn sang to them. She speaks very little during a show but instead chooses to cycle through one crowd favorite after another.
