I can’t even think of where to begin with this. Everything about tonight was so incredible. I think I'll just tell everyone what happened from the start. This story is definitely going to be one of my favorites. Fair warning, these pictures were taken from my phone and aren’t exactly great quality. It's after 2am, but I'm just so excited still that I had to just do this now instead of waiting until morning.
Being me typically means staying up late and killing time, so early this morning at say 2-3am Cherry Cherry Boom Boom himself told me to email Dean Dean the Webmastering Machine (why yes, these are superheroes in case you were wondering, part of the Cherrytree League of Great Music… I’m tacky) Needless to say, I emailed Dean and was added to the guest list for this event. I quickly bought Perfectionist on iTunes and stayed up listening to it to get hyped.
After an almost sleepless night due to excitement, I found myself looking for a partner in crime, my +1 for this event. Who better than another rec’er? I decided to bring KidOldSchool along for this adventure, I certainly don’t regret it. A few hours and some public transportation later, we met up and got to the venue. We met up with a few other rec’ers who were lucky enough to be able to join us as well, my dear friend Kari, as well as her father and a few others. We said our hellos to Cap’n Scott, (again with the superhero nonsense) who for this event was going incognito and left the captain suit at home.
Let me pause here…
this whole event took place on the rooftop of a Manhattan building! The view was absolutely breathtaking! Between the sunset, incredible moon and the view of both the Chrysler Building and the Empire State Building, I was in awe. Ok, back to the story.
At this point after Scott left to take care of something, an interesting event happened; I spotted Mat Devine, the singer of one of my favorite bands (Kill Hannah) among the crowd. As one of my favorite singers for 5+ years, I had to say hello. He was very sweet and chatted with me for a bit before asking for a picture with me. It made me so unbelievably happy. Apparently he’s a friend of Ms. Kills! While this little moment isn’t directly related to Cherrytree or Natalia, I have to mention it because it never would have happened if not for this spectacular event, and for that I’m so very grateful for the opportunity.
Shortly after, the moment everyone is waiting for happened… Natalia Kills took the stage after a quick introduction by Martin (Cherry Cherry Boom Boom). I can’t even explain this next part well enough, for there are no words to describe the talent that woman has. She looked absolutely stunning and the performance fit the album: perfection. She performed “Kill My Boyfriend,” “Wonderland,” “Mirrors,” “Love Is a Suicide” and “Free.” My mind was blown, I died and went to heaven, and I was KILLED by Kills. What a sweet, fierce woman… and what a voice! After leaving the stage, she gave some very wonderful hugs (thank you!).
I spent a good bit of time after that speaking to Tony and Scott, which was an absolute pleasure. I have nothing but respect and love for everyone at Cherrytree for all of these opportunities. Tony gave wonderful advice and we discussed a bunch of music related things that made my inner nerd quite happy. I left with the biggest smile on my face and the happiest I’ve been in a long time. I’m still in shock, but it was quite a wonderful night with some absolutely wonderful people.
I am so proud of Natalia Kills. She performed so beautifully, and I know Perfectionist is going to have great success. It was really special to get to share the night with such talented people. Thank you so much to everyone who made this night so special... I'm still smiling.
