LMFAO leaps to its first No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, to be released tomorrow (July 7) on Billboard.com, as "Party Rock Anthem," featuring Lauren Bennett and GoonRock, lifts 3-1 with Digital Gainer honors.
Twosome LMFAO is the first duo or group to top the Hot 100 since Far*East Movement spent the last of three weeks at No. 1 with "Like a G6," featuring Cataracs & Dev, on the Nov. 27, 2010, chart. The last prior duo to lead the Hot 100? OutKast, which reigned back-to-back with "Hey Ya!" (nine weeks) and "The Way You Move," featuring Sleepy Brown (one), in 2003-04.
LMFAO's Hot 100 coronation also brings a musically-rich bloodline to the chart's apex, as the dance/pop/hip-hop duo consists of DJs Redfoo and SkyBlu, aka Stefan Gordy and Skyler Gordy, the son and grandson, respectively, of Motown Records founder Berry Gordy.
(By reaching No. 1, Stefan claims bragging rights over his older brother (by 11 years), Kennedy. The latter singer - billed as Rockwell - peaked at No. 2 with "Somebody's Watching Me," in 1984).
English singer Bennett and Los Angeles producer GoonRock also each enjoy their first trip to the top of the Hot 100.
