Matthew Koma's debut solo single, "Parachute" (Cherrytree/Interscope), takes his distinctive vocals and surrounds them with state-of-the-art 2012 pop -- up-tempo and hooky, like a more rock-oriented "Call Me Maybe" or a clever version of "Payphone." But the real surprise here is how the Seaford native, currently opening on LMFAO's arena tour, keeps the lyrics sharp. ("Don't need a tomb with a view on the West Side," he sings. "Just want to wake up at your side.") "Parachute" shows that Koma is ready to fly.
