So I received an email on Monday morning from a music publicist asking if I wanted to go to a concert to check out a mini showcase from some artists on the Cherrytree Record label. One of the artists being Sting. I was like, Sting as in STING?? As in 16-time Grammy winner Sting??!
Um, yeah. Who could say no to that?
Even better, Sting would be playing one of the most seemingly random non-music venues: Magicopolis in Santa Monica. Yes, as in Magicopolis, that place I've walked by a million times on 4th Street but had never stepped inside because, well, even though I guess I like magic, I just never really liked magic thaaaaaat much.
Well, it turned out to be a truly magical experience because there in that tiny 150-seat theatre on an even tinier stage Sting opened the night by performing a handful of songs from his new album "The Last Ship" — his first full-length LP since 2003.
