Martin's Photo Blog, Saturday, December 10th, 2011

Hi Gang,

I've tried to post this blog twice already but the Internet connection here at the hotel in NYC keeps gasping out.  Giving it another go now.  Maybe third time's a charm.  Lots has been going on in Cherrytreeland including 3 killer shows by Sting at The Wiltern theater in Los Angeles last week.  All string instruments and drums on-stage as part of his Back to Bass tour, Sting treated the LA audience to selections from his hit-laden catalog of repertoire including "All This Time," "Demolition Man," "Every Breath You Take" and a solo, nylon-string guitar, self-accompanied rendition of his moving classic "Fragile."  I snapped a photo during this performance (below). On the third and final night, NARAS had their GRAMMY nomination announcements and it was revealed that Sting had garnered 2 nominations this year.  Click here for details on the nominations.

Singer/songwriter Michael Kiwanuka played Los Angeles this week at Bardot and Hotel Cafe.  He also performed an intimate set at The Cherrytree House accompanied by his bassist, Peter.  Michael has a captivating voice and is a pretty dang great guitarist too.  Stay tuned to CherrytreeRecords.com for info on his Cherrytree House episode's debut.

Next, I flew to NYC to attend rehearsals for Robyn's Saturday Night Live appearance scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 10th (tonight!).  Robyn's voice sounded out-of-this-world as she directed her crack band through kick-a** versions of "Call Your Girlfriend" and "Dancing on My Own." I got a chance to say hi to Katy Perry (the show's guest-host tonight) for taking out no less than 3 Cherrytree artists (Robyn, Natalia Kills and Ellie Goulding) on her recent world tour.  Robyn, too, has been nominated for 2 GRAMMYs this year.  Congratulations, R.O.B. and good luck on SNL tonight.  Click here for Robyn SNL and GRAMMY details.  Click this link to see the SNL promo spot featuring Robyn.

After SNL rehearsals, I headed to Joe's Pub where I saw Michael Kiwanuka again this time making his New York City debut.  The show was a success as Michael invited the audience to help him name a new, as-yet-untitled song.  Here's hoping the tune ends up on his album scheduled for release on Cherrytree this coming Spring.

The following day, I went to Z100's Jingle Ball at Madison Square Garden to link up with LFMAO. Despite Sky Blu's absence (Sky's back is ailing.  We wish him a speedy recovery), RedFoo and the Party Rock Crew tore the roof of the legendary venue.  17,000 people were shuffling.  Here they are looking sexy and knowing it:

After the show, we made our way to Lavo for a nice dinner followed by a crazy-fun DJ set by RedFoo and the Party Rock crew.  There, Foo talked about the progress on the new iPhone app he's developing and showed me back in Halloween.

Big congrats to LMFAO for having the no. 1 most-downloaded song on iTunes UK in 2011 with "Party Rock Anthem." Read the details here.

I'm getting ready to head to NBC now for Robyn's performance on SNL but before I do, I want to thank Larry Flick, host of Sirius Radio's "The Morning Jolt" for inviting me to guest on his show this Monday, Dec. 12th at 9am EST/6am PST.  Larry will be playing an hour of music by Cherrytree artists on his show. You can get info and the link to listen on-line by clicking here.

Also, this coming week I'll be traveling to Canada for the second leg of The Cherrytree Pop Alternative Tour featuring LMFAO with special guests Far East Movement and Natalia Kills, Frankmusik, Rye Rye, Colette Carr and My Name Is Kay.

The first dates in Quebec City, Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa a couple of weeks ago were outstanding and the forthcoming ones in Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Regina, Calgary and Vancouver promise to be a blast.  Check out this photo from the Ottawa show below.

Don't forget to come out for the in-store autograph sessions too.  Click here for details.

I'll try to blog again soon and, in the meantime, leave you with this holiday photo of Colette Carr, Santa and The Cherrytree Singers (catch their carol version of LMFAO's "Sexy and I Know It" right here.

Thanks for all of your continued support of Cherrytree and its artists.

Keep on Rec'in :-)
