La Roux, Robyn and Tokio Hotel Nominated at MTV's O Music Awards

New York, NY, April 05, 2011 – MTV Music Group, the most visited music online destination*, today announced categories, nominees, open voting, and integrated partners for the inaugural O Music Awards, www.omusicawards.com, @MTVOMA, a multiplatform franchise and award event that celebrates and honors the art, creativity, personality, technology and migration of music into the digital space. The inaugural O Music Awards will be held on April 28 across multiple platforms and screens including MTV.com, VH1.com, and LogoTV.com and include
heavy integration with social media.

“The advent of the digital space has forever changed the way we discover, experience and enjoy music, resulting in an unparalleled fusion of fan interaction and creativity around the artists they love,” said Dermot McCormack, Executive Vice President, Digital Media for MTV Music and Logo Group. “With the conversation at a fever pitch, the time has come to celebrate and award achievements and innovations in this space with an experimental, ever evolving, unorthodox and forward facing event that only MTV Music Group can pull off”.

The O Music Awards will feature a myriad of distinct categories that celebrate artists, innovators, fans, web celebrities and tech gurus that have impacted the world of digital music. Categories include Innovative Music Video, Fan Army FTW, Funniest Music Short, Innovative Artist, Must Follow Artist on Twitter, NSFW Music Video, Most Viral Dance, Best Independent Music Blog, Best Animal Performance, Best Performance Series and more. The O in O Music Awards has been purposely left open to interpretation to generate a reaction and spur conversation, and can stand for any myriad of words that the audience can choose from that captures the essence of the show in their minds such as open, ongoing, online among countless others.

Lady Gaga and Odd Future’s Tyler the Creator lead with 3 nominations each, followed by Kanye West, The Flaming Lips and Nicki Minaj with two nominations apiece. Additional nominated artists include Arcade Fire, Radiohead, Justin Bieber, Lil B, Wiz Khalifa, Robyn, OK Go, Katy Perry and iamamiwhoami. Other notable nominees include Antoine Dodson/ Gregory Brothers (Funniest Music Short), The Lonely Island (Funniest Music Short), Funny or Die (Funniest Music Short), Gorilla vs Bear (Best Independent Music Blog), The Hype Machine (Best Music Discovery Service), Pandora (Best Music Discovery Service), Tiny Desk Concerts (Best Performance Series) and Marshall Jones (Best Music Hack).

Voting begins today on the O Music Awards website and will be simple and social. Fans can vote via social media or through a mobile voting site. Each award category features pre‐selected nominees but also allows fans to write in a nominee and then rally support for them using their social networks. To drive engagement and enthusiasm, each award category will include a real‐time leaderboard indicating which nominees are trending at any given time.

The inaugural sponsors of O Music Awards are adidas, Ford and FUZE®. All three partners will work with MTV Music Group to develop compelling in‐show integrations and digital experiences. In addition, each partner will sponsor one or more awards.

The O Music Awards website will be the digital main stage and the heart of all activity in the weeks leading up to the O Music Awards. Post event, the website will continue to spotlight innovation and creativity in the digital music space. The award event will be the centerpiece of a larger ongoing discussion and celebration around digital music throughout the year that will take place across multiple platforms including the O Music Awards website and social media.
