KEANE ANNOUNCE NEW SINGLE AS THEY REMAIN AT NUMBER 1 FOR A SECOND WEEK
Keane will release their new single 'Sovereign Light Café' on 16th July through Island/Cherrytree/Interscope Records.
Keane's new album 'Strangeland' remains at number 1 in the UK charts for a second week this week - their fifth consecutive number one album, equalling Coldplay and Radiohead, and beaten only by The Beatles.
'Strangeland' has debuted in the top ten in twenty countries around the world. It is their fourth studio album, after 'Hopes & Fears' (2004); 'Under The Iron Sea' (2006); 'Perfect Symmetry' (2008) and the 'Night Train' EP (2010) which also topped the UK Album Chart.
You could say that 'Sovereign Light Café' is the theme to 'Strangeland'. It was the first song that Tim wrote for the album - the idea came to him in a taxi in Sao Paulo. The title name checks the seafront café in Bexhill where, as teenagers cycling from nearby Battle, he and Keane drummer Richard Hughes would “spend hours sunbathing underneath cloudy skies.” Once a “Springsteeny-sounding” demo was laid down on the tour bus, the group listened back to what they had. The song’s sentiments – perhaps something to do with trying to make sense of the present by taking a look at your past –seemed to shine a light on what would follow. “It felt very emotional,” recalls Tim. “From the heart."
The 'Sovereign Light Cafe' video was filmed in Bexhill and features locals who create a portrait of a much love seaside town and joyful celebration of English life. The video will be premiered on VEVO on 30th May.
Keane are now set to continue their world tour with a string of sell out UK dates in May and June, before heading to North America and Europe.
"We were wide eyed dreamers and wiser too." (Keane, Sovereign Light Cafe)
