BLACKBERRY PRESENTS MTV’s BRAND NEW FOR 2011

London, UK, 30th November- MTV today unveiled the finalists for ‘BlackBerry Presents MTV’s Brand New for 2011’ –a list of emerging talent MTV have tipped for the top in 2011. This year’s list of new talent is even more far-reaching than previous, spanning across genres grime, rock, dub-step, indie and pop. The list includes; indie band The Vaccines, hip-hop-electro-pop mash-up act Far East Movement
, singer-song writer Jessie J, grime MC Wretch 32, pop-r’n’b trio Ruff Diamondz, Nashville based band Mona, dub-step artist Jamie Woon, songwriter and producer Labrinth, singer-song writer Clare Maguire and pop’s youngest starlet Willow Smith. Fans can have their say by voting for their favourite artist on www.mtv.co.uk/brandnew
from Tuesday 4th January. Voting will close on Monday 1st February when MTV will reveal who has come out on top.
Now in its third year, the ‘BlackBerry Presents MTV’s Brand New for 2011’ list, has become a key indicator for the year ahead in UK music. So much so, that each UK artist will also be automatically entered as a nominee for the Best New UK & Ireland Act award at the MTV EMAs 2011.
To celebrate in style , ‘BlackBerry Presents MTV’s Brand New for 2011’ will hold two gigs at Camden’s Koko on Tuesday 25th & Wednesday 26th January. The gigs will have exclusive performances from four of the finalists including; Jessie J, Ruff Diamondz, Mona and Clare Maguire. Surprise headlining acts will be announced in January.

Last night two of this year’s finalists Labrinth and Wretch 32 made their full live debuts to over 1500 fans at Koko, as they opened for last year’s finalist Tinie Tempah. Labrinth performed his top 10 single ‘Let the Sun Shine’, as well as new material from his forthcoming album, whilst Wretch 32 performed the soon to be released single ‘Traktor’ live for the first time. As expected, Tinie Tempah blew the roof off performing his number 1 singles ‘Frisky’, ‘Written in the Stars’ and the anthem of 2010 ‘Pass Out’.
Selected by the MTV UK music team, last year’s 'Brand New 10 for 10' artists – Tinie Tempah, Ellie Goulding, Ke$ha, Marina & The Diamonds, Rox, Delphic, Owl City, The Drums, Drake and winner Justin Bieber - have gone on to secure a brace of number one singles and albums, sell out tours and headline festival shows.
