Falling Down Down Down Down Down Down

I have never done the fan thing

Anyone who knows me knows this to be true

However, yesterday has started what maybe the first true fandom for me because of an act of kindness on the part of an artist

Yesterday was playing out to be another boring evening

Space Cowboy was spinning in Seattle and I, being poor, couldnt afford the cover and henceforth, couldnt go

So I climb into my PJ's and get on Twitter where who other but Space Cowboy is hyping up for the show and says "hey, if there's anyone in the Seattle area who wants to come to the show, let me know"

Not thnking twice about it, I half heartedly reply, "I'm in the area, I'd love to go, but am sadly too poor."

Not five minutes later, there's a new Direct Message in my Inbox...from Space Cowboy

"Hey, I've written you up on the guest list under Zero Love, okay? See you there :-)"

I couldnt believe it

But then, wait I think quietly to myself, I'm at least and hours drive away, by the time i get there, it'll be over

There's still no point in me going

I tell my future roommate Joey about the situation and his words were and I quote, "You get your a** in gear and GO girl! This is a once in a lifetime opportunity"

I dress in a flash, and I broke every speed limit along the way by at least 20

I'm shocked I didnt run into any cops

I find the venue and I start talking myself down again

Okay, I'm here, but what're the odds I'll find a parking spot within a mile of here?

I drive down and not even a block away, there's a single empty spot...which I take.

I run not walk to the hall, and start talking myself down, even tho my heart is pumping faster

Okay, even tho he said I'm on the list, they're still going to give me flack

I gave my Twitter name, they stamped me, and I was in.

I made my way to the front (something I'm rather adept at) and I hadnt missed a THING

I saw the show from start to finish

After he performed Falling Down and started working the tables, he spotted me, and recognized me from my Twitter profile pic and blew me kisses

After his set I gave him a hug and the first words out of his mouth were, "You didnt have any trouble getting in, did you love?"

Of course I told him no, and thanked him profusely

I then told him that I would be moving soon to San Francisco and promised to see his show there and proceeded to take off my right earring and handed it to him, saying "this is proof of my promise to you"

Whether or not he keeps track of it is irrelevent, whether or not he remembers my face, my name doesnt matter

I'll always remember that act of kindness as long as I live, and I hope one day to be able to repay it
