The last time I witnessed Ellie Goulding she was very ill. This show in Royal Oak was my first real opportunity to see her live 100% and she delivered. With a beefed up set list she took the stage receiving an overwhelming roar from the crowd. At times she questioned why the crowd was quiet but I myself having been to many Detroit shows, this was a very attentive and loving crowd. In a city that has been ravaged with its share of hardship, I know what a uninterested or hostile crowd looks like and this was not the case on this night.
Wearing a marching band coat as well as shoes which reminded me of a possible shopping trip with label mate Robyn, she came out poised before her signature floor tom and cymbal. Ellie proceded to weave through the entire Lights album and then some. Mid set she excused the band for solo acoustic "back to basics" folk interlude which I found refreshing being that she admitted for this moment she was going back to her roots. With amazing musicians and a solid set list, I found myself enjoying every second of this show.
