Semi Precious Weapons Report on Robyn's London show
We, Semi Precious Weapons, are currently touring Europe opening for our hero, bff, Queen Of Pop and love, Lady GaGa. When the Paris Monster Ball shows got postponed due to the strikes, we ended up with an unexpected long weekend in London. On our flight into London we over heard Robyn was performing on Friday night. So we asked our manager if he could find us some tix to the sold out show. He did. Ha!
We spent all day writing some life changing new songs, (because GaGa told us that if we didn't write new music on our weekend off that we weren't loving our fans enough, no joke, amazing). So after loving our fans via new songs, we got in black cab and headed over to the Shepherd's Bush Empire. We got there just in time to consume some whiskey and secure ourselves a perfy location before Robyn began.
Her musicians walked out in creepy white lab coats, fyi in our world creepy is good adjective, and began playing some synthy rave magic while blinding blue LED lights assaulted the audience.
Robyn appeared looking casually hot in a casual platform construction worker boot, some insane skin tight high waisted red pants, 5 belts, and a bomber jacket.
She started dancing, who knew Robyn moved so f*cking well?!? From the start of the show sets the tone that she isn't there to perform, but that she is there to start a party. We love choreography as much as anyone, but it was beyond cool to just watch a girl dance her a** off free style for 90 minutes straight. We thought our show was draining. F*ck. It was like the coolest girl at the dance party just happens to sing really well.
All of the creeper white coat musicians were technically fantastic. Taking wonderfully executed solos at moments, but also letting Robyn lead them through simple songs one minute, or improvised rave stories the next.
I think for all of us, the dub step influenced "Dance Hall Queen" hit the hardest. Every single person was on their feet dancing, Robyn's voice rang like a f*cking bell, and the pocket was deep!
She finished the 90 minute dance off with a stripped down beautiful medley of Dancing Queen and Show Me Love.
After the show we went down the street to find some more booze, and a couple people actually knew who we were. Sorry, this is new to us, we get really excited by it. Ha!
Dublin here we come. Monster Weapons prepare ye for SPW and Mother Monster!
