5 Star London Evening Standard Review of Robyn at Brixton Academy - London

As transformations go, Robyn Carlsson’s late-Nineties leap from successful, major label pop poppet to sweary, malevolent, indie pixie hardly set the world alight and almost extinguished her career. Bravery, though, brings its rewards: last night’s deliriously received sell-out was an indication of Robyn’s re-ignited commercial and artistic worth.

Blessed with the turbo-charged energy of Janelle Monáe; a skirt-hoisting swagger not always embraced by women who choose to wear yellow tights; an anger which peaked on the stroppiest song of all time, Don’t F****** Tell Me What To Do; and an intensity which still burned after 100 minutes, this was an artist basking in her chosen career path, her understanding of a visual and aural spectacle and her love of a KLF-style anthem.
