NME 9/10 Review for 'The First Days of Spring'

"The six minute plus title track sets the unhurried pace, with spiraling, blockbusting indie-folk that's big on the cinematics; handy, seeing as, like Tommy and Ziggy, there is also a film to accompany the whole record."

Last Days - Message from Doug

Doug has taken to Whalemail to discuss the brand new single 'Blue Skies' and his upcoming hiatus from Noah and the Whale in order to put to use his recently obtained medical degree.

"I will miss many things, too many to itemise in even a farewell Whalemail. But I do want to say that I am exceptionally proud of my brother and his achievements, and of the things we have achieved together. And I am confident that this is really just the beginning of the band realising its potential,… Continue

The Guardian - Hail, Hail, Rock'n'Roll

"Loving and losing are not new subjects in music. But rarely are they captured with such poignancy as on Noah and the Whale's album."

One of the biggest UK newspapers 'The Guardian' has written this incredible review of the new album First Days of Spring from Noah and the Whale.

"Unlike many break-up records, this one does not begin with despair, but with the season of spring, when, Fink observes, there is hope "in every new seed and every flower that… Continue

5 Star review from The Sunday Times

"All too rarely, an album arrives whose impact comes not from the clarity with which it communicates but through the sense of haunted mystification it leaves the listener with."

The Sunday Times' "On The Record" has just written this amazing 5 star review on the new Noah and the Whale album First Days or Spring naming it 'CD Of The Week.'

"There's a feature-length film to go with the CD, but this album is visual enough. It is also a masterpiece. That, at… Continue

'First Days of Spring' Glowing Album Review

Right. On to the review. This is an album about a breakup, very openly and obviously. Laura Marling, ex-member of Noah and the Whale has split from singer Charlie Fink and the result, is this. Considering the youth of the pair, you would be forgiven for expecting a cliché ridden revenge album. This is most definitely not the case.

The album opens with the 7 minute long, epic title track and sets the tone wonderfully. The… Continue

Noah and the Whale: The First Days of Spring

“I do see the film and the album as being together, as a unified thing,” says Noah and the Whale’s chief songwriter and singer Charlie Fink about the band’s new record and accompanying film, The First Days of Spring. “But the album very much came first – it has its own internal narrative.”

As with their debut, last year’s Peaceful, The World Lays Me Down, the Londoners’ second release follows a structure. There are songs here – Blue Skies, Our Window,… Continue
