How different is it to be working completely with your original material versus looking at someone else's song and using those existing elements?
It's actually kind of a similar process. To me, it's always been writing music -- the creative side of it is pretty similar. You're obviously referencing material that's pre-existing, but the only real difference from that and…

What makes a song ‘remixable’? Like when you’re listening to a song, what types of things are you listening for?
Ah, it’s hard to explain. It can’t just be a track — it has to be a song. It can be any genre — Disney, pop, country, rock, whatever — but it just has to have that essence, that value, that a song has. Those make the easiest remixes. It’s in the vocals.
Why are the vocals so important?
Well the vocals are the…

RAC used to stand for "Remix Artist Collective" where it was just that -- a few DJs that did fancy mash-ups. Nowadays, it's just the solo project of original RAC member André Allen Anjos, a master-mixer from Portland, Oregon. He's releasing his debut album "Stranger" (Cherrytree/Interscope) in two parts this spring, with guest spots from Tegan and Sara, Penguin Prison…Continue

So how is your tour going to pan out for you and the band? Will you be Djing and playing originals?
Actually, it’s all fully live. It’s a mix of the original material and remixes. When I started thinking about the tour– the goal was to eventually play more original stuff. Most people know the remixes though so it just makes sense to play some of that stuff as well. It’s a fully live set with a four piece rock band. We have a light show, a visual show…Continue

He's topped Hype Machine 22 times and has reworked tracks by everyone from Radiohead and Yeah Yeah Yeahs to Lana Del Rey and Kings of Leon… even Bob Marley. He’s now a music-maker, too, with a debut EP to his name. Don't Talk To features originals written with…Continue
RAC stormed on stage with an unseen grace, powerfully demanding our attention while maintaining a casual, “We-are-about-to-blow-your-mind” type of awareness; they commanded the stage. As the music began, and the thumos started flowing, my pupils dilated in a pure lucidity that had me shook. Hands waved, hearts skipped beats, and larynxes were…Continue
