Spin: The 10 Best Things We Saw at Bonnaroo

"I was kind of hard up for cash recently," began one of many stories that Deap Vally drummer Julie Edwards told the gathered throngs at This Tent. "So we made a deal with a fan at a show where if he bought one of our crop tops, we'd dedicate a song to him." Deap Vally Let Loose

Watching Deap Vally play does feel a little bit like watching something private. Their stage presence is compellingly unfettered. First, there’s the fact that they’re just a duo—at times it seems impossible that the walls of sound they create are emanating from two girls in cut-off shorts and fringed bra crop tops. Then there’s the easy way they feed off each other’s energy,…

Breezy Coachella Debut for Deap Vally -

"It was so magical, a real coming-of-age experience, where you listen to the music, lose yourself and become unhinged," she recalled Sunday afternoon. "We camped (in 2004), but we didn't have camping passes, so we slept on the grass and in our cars. At the time, I thought: 'I want to play (at) this festival.' The Get Deap! EP offers fans their first taste of what’s to come on the band’s upcoming full-length album, which is near completion and will be released later this year. The EP includes 4 tracks, including the band’s debut single single Gonna Make My Own Money, which NME hailed by saying “Deap Vally draws on the unrepentant strut of Ike and Tina and the heavyweight clatter of Led Zeppelin, as well as Karen O’s tree-felling caterwaul.”
