The Planes.

Great new indie band from the South of England. For fans of early Arctic Monkeys, The Strokes, The Libertines and just out and out good tidy music with a bit of grit. Although polished in sound and image, the 4 Portsmouth natives bring about a feeling of years long past in the music guitar rock scene. The ethos of everything is for us and done by us without seeming arrogant. Personality aside the actual music is very attractive and comforting without seeming brash.

So sit…

Review Riot: A Hospital For Souls

After releasing The Trials and becoming a huge internet sensation for a lot of us, Rhiannon, - who is better known as Antoinette to her fans - has finally released her sophomore album, A Hospital For Souls, which happens to be just as brilliant as the first, and with their beautiful lyrics and soothing music, both albums have managed to convey the very essence of what it is to have mental illness. While The Trials talks about broken hearts and broken minds in general, A Hospital For Souls relates a story of a girl who passes over into a hospital, with no knowledge whatsoever of her death. The music has a somewhat indie sound, a sound I believe deserves more merit than most musicians out there, as it has been recorded and distributed straight from Rhiannon’s house. The lyrics manage to convey an incredibly complex and touching story in just fourteen songs, and the music manages to help relax your mind, which it’s soft guitar chords and even softer drumbeats, and that’s all tied together with Rhiannon’s voice singing about the things closest to her heart. It’s a story worth listening to, even if the music isn’t to your taste, because it’s a story that almost everyone could relate to. You can listen to and download A Hospital For Souls here.

Unapologetically Pop: JFF - Antoinette + The Kings Men

Antoinette + the Kings Men is a musical and artistic project by a talented, exploratory woman from the British Isles. Antoinette, a character who personifies "the madness within each and every one of us," pens experimental POP that makes you weep. Her demos unfold in chronological order, developing a very…

The Sonic Reverie: Introducing Antoinette + The Kings Men

Antoinette and the Kings Men might be a very fresh project, but it certainly isn't so new in the eyes of it's creator. What we have is something that has been under wraps and in development for much longer than your average demo tracks. The material she offers is instead written from life experiences and…

CQD (Come Quickly Distress) - A Review by Cathy Maddox

I wish I was born beautiful

I found myself crying my eyes out while listening to Antoinette & the Kings Men's new song, 'CQD'. It stands for 'Come Quickly Distress', and I think it's based on the Titanic based on the tags. (I forgot what she told me about it)
It is a very haunting piece of art that I found seriously mesmerizing. Maybe it was the fact it…

The Evolution of Antoinette (2010 - 2012) - CQD (Come Quickly Distress)

The track depicts changes - about people stating that I have "changed' and become a "stranger" to them. I penned these lyrics when I was at my lowest, honest-to-God rock bottom. When I thought I was out and over the hill - that everything I had ambition for was over.

Sometimes we feel unfulfilled and in this state, we think we're…

Friendly Fires at Rock City, Nottingham 19/12/11

Finally, the big day came after being rescheduled a month after it's original date and I was very excited. Despite being about 30th in the que, the people in front actually disapeered and we were front row-we are not ones to push and shove, surprisingly for 16 year olds.

First came the support act Chad Valley a.k.a Hugo Manuel, he was absolutely brilliant! I had been listening to his electronic, sunset vibe for months before the gig- especially when I went on holiday to Greece…

Noah and the Whale remixes

I've never really been a big fan of remixes, they often kill songs and make them sound just bloody awful. But after searching Noah and the Whale on soundcloud out of curiosity, I came across two remixes which were from Noah and the Whale's own account which is cool!

The first is this, it's a great Bibio remix of Waiting For My Chance To Come. It's unlike anything I've ever heard and it makes the song sound totally different but It doesn't ruin it, I love the song and I…

*Insert epic blog post about how great Friendly Fires was here*

Apologies for not posting lately but I was going to wait and then have a fab post about how great Friendly Fires were at Rock City in Notts but unfortunately, Ed has got a throat infection so they had to cancel :( Luckily though they have been arranging more dates so that shouldn't be too far away and you'll have lots of awesome pictures of Ed dancing through the gig!

Charlie (natw) and Ed should totally have a dance off.

Anyway, keep viewing and you'll soon find…

Cora Hamiltion, a girl definitely to keep your eyes open for.

Cora Hamiltion is a 15 year old girl from the UK who has lately been posting covers of songs onto her Sound Cloud and they are breath-takingly fantastic. Like many would, I had a slight impression before listening to them that they would be the average kareoke-type cover just like every other teen who wishes to be an artist, but I could not be more wrong as Cora is extremely talented. Although It Isn't exactly my choice of program, Cora is auditioning for Britain's Got Talent UK very…

Noah and the Whale: The First Days of Spring

“I do see the film and the album as being together, as a unified thing,” says Noah and the Whale’s chief songwriter and singer Charlie Fink about the band’s new record and accompanying film, The First Days of Spring. “But the album very much came first – it has its own internal narrative.”

As with their debut, last year’s Peaceful, The World Lays Me Down, the Londoners’ second release follows a structure. There are songs here – Blue Skies, Our Window,… Continue
