"Matt O'Brien: 1 cup of diced emotions, a pinch of electro, 1.5 cups of soul, with a dash of powerful lyrics. Blend until you get pop perfection."
Matt O'Brien is a rare type of musician-the type that is able to captivate an audience no matter what type of music he performs, or how he performs it. In his hometown of Wadsworth, Ohio, he is well known as an outstanding vocalist, and his talents in performing haven't gone un-noticed. During Matt’s senior year of high school, he was awarded Vocal Music Student of the Year and Best Male Vocalist of his 2008 class. Now in his second year of college, he's definitely begun to polish himself as an artist. He still performs at events around his city-churches, weddings, local town events, etc. Matt takes any opportunity thrown at him. He certainly isn't a stranger to performing.
Matt has been writing his own music since he was 13. One song, played at Showchoir Camps of American, has garnered him national attention.. At that same camp, he met one of the world’s highest selling choral composers, Roger Emerson. In late 2008, Roger, having recognized Matt’s potential, surprised him with a whole new recording setup.
Since then Matt has been moving forward with drive. He's written and recorded his best songs yet, and they seem to keep getting better. Lyrically, he writes from any inspiration he can get his hands on, whether it be from personal experiences or from things such as story lines from movies. His blend of smooth David Archuleta-esque vocals and Electro-Pop give him his own distinct style. With a combination of the lyrics and the music, Matt knows he has something going for him. He now knows it even more having been offered a recording contract. Although ultimately turning that down because that wasn't the route he decided to go, he knows that if he's able to get the attention of one label, he could gain the attention of many others.
Aside from the writing, production, and singing talents that he's been graced with, Matt is also a talented dancer. He still returns to his old high school's show choir to do choreography for them every now and then: "I'm actually known best for my ummm...hip movements. My choir teacher, as well as most of my friends, say that I can move my hips better than most women. I don't know if that's a compliment or not, but I'll take it."
For now, though, he is writing and recording his first album. It's been a slow process so far since things like college can easily get in the way. In the future, however, he plans on releasing his first record independently if nobody decides to pick him up for a deal. As uncertain as the future is, Matt knows he has what it takes, and is willing to go to great lengths to succeed.www.myspace.com/mobmusik
