Tokio Hotel in America

Yes!  Tokio Hotel are in the USA.  All of us at Cherrytree Records have been eagerly awaiting the group's return to America since their special show at the Avalon in LA  (the subject of this month's "Cherrytree House" episode at www.thecherrytreehouse.com).  Recently, their video for "Monsoon" has been holding it down on MTV's TRL and the band themselves are making an appearance on the show this week.  I'm excited that they're back and kicking off a US tour that'll see them playing in Detroit, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Dallas, Denver, Chicago, Annaheim and St. Paul among other American cities (check out the complete itinerary in the news section at www.cherrytreerecords.com).  I'm going to be in New York for their MTV performance tomorrow.  I love seeing Tokio Hotel.  The band always puts on a great show and, one-on-one, the guys are super friendly and funny.  They're very witty and have a sharp since of humor.  Both their music and their jokes keep me on my toes!  Go Tokio Hotel.  Here we go!

Robyn is the bomb didi bomb di deng gi deng digi digi!

Wow, what an awesome weekend I have had! Robyn was here in the UK, London, shooting her new video 'Cobrastyle' with directors Rankin and Chris, so I decided to go down to the set of the video and check it out. I just have to say - it looks like it will be such an awesome video, probably my favourite of all Robyn's videos to date. Filming started early Sunday morning, and continued into Monday night (with the obvious break for sleep in between, of course), everyone was working so hard, and there was barely a minute spare between everybody combined, but it is going to be sooo worth the effort they’ve put into it.

I won't say too much about what's going on in the video, but just imagine what would happen if you took a plain white canvas and unleashed onto it all the colours of the rainbow, and then threw in a majorly talented sexy Swedish singer for good measure! If you can do that then you're getting close to understanding how the new Robyn video will look.

My favourite scene from the shooting actually was a fairly simple idea, but the effect it had was nothing short of amazing. Robyn was on a glass stand, with camera below, and the table was covered in water, so as she danced to the music the water rippled and splashed. It looked so awesome on the screen and it gives a great energy to the song.

Whilst on set I got to ask Robyn some questions for CherrytreeTV and MTV News, so keep an eye out for those videos, they’re gonna rock and Robyn looked super cute (though doesn't she always?)! She is one of those people you just have to love, and seeing her in person... you just can't help but love her even more!

Sunset Blvd. June 22nd, 2008

Sunset Blvd. June 22nd, 2008

It's Sunday night and I was just driving down Sunset Blvd. past the Key Club where The Fratellis recently performed (see Andrea's blog of June 18th).  There's a big Fratellis billboard on the side of the club and I thought it looked supercool so I stopped and took a quick snapshot of it.  The artwork on The Fratellis' new album is really arresting and this blown-up, pixelated variation really caught my eye in the Hollywood dusk. The Cherrytree Radio exclusives mentioned at the bottom of the billboard have already started with a pretty no-holds-barred interview of John Fratelli conducted by none other than Barry Fratelli. Or is it the other way around?  It's hard to tell with those two. Anyway, they recorded it in San Francisco on their recent visit to California and the questions (not to mention the answers) are pretty off-the-wall.  Check it out - it's running on Cherrytree Radio at www.cherrytreeradio.com.

The Fratellis in Los Angeles

Hello,

Andrea here… so the Fratellis just came through Los Angeles…did a rocking show at the Key Club, an in-store performance at Virgin Mega Store, as well as the Craig Ferguson show (airs June 20th!) And I was so lucky to be at all!

I am constantly impressed with these guys; the musicianship, songwriting and performance are at such a high level it’s a rare thing to behold these days. The best thing is they seem to be inspired by the same things I am. I don’t mean to be too personal here but every time I turned around they were wearing a Beatles shirt (tops for me) and several times Jon and Barry were wearing star wars shirts (an obsession) as well as possessing an Obi-wan bobble head!!! Holy toledo, I think we’re soul mates! Cheers to the Fratellis, who are one the best rock bands on planet earth, if you don’t believe me just listen to Stragglers Moon off the new album. John and Paul would be proud.

Funniest moment with the guys: at the in-store performance after the guys were off stage a guy walked up to Jon and said he didn’t know who they were when he walked in, but thought they were great by the end. He proceeds to ask Jon what the name of the last song they did was, and Jon happily replied “Flathead”. Then the guy asked if it was on the new record (Here We Stand-out now!) and Jon says without blinking “yes” and then guys asks, “do you know what track it is?” And Jon said. “I don’t remember but it’s on there”

You are a great salesmen Jon!

(For those of you new to the Fratellis “Flathead” is from the last album Costello music and was featured in an Ipod spot)

ROBYN SHOOTING VIDEO FOR COBRASTYLE

We're getting excited here at Cherrytree.  Robyn's about to shoot a new video.  This time it's for one of my favorite songs from her album; "Cobrastyle."  I talked to Robyn tonight right after she'd just come off stage in Sweden.  She'd gone on at 2am local time and it was light out (it's light out at 2am in Sweden during the summer - what a head trip!).  Robyn's got some great ideas for her video which we're going to shoot in London before the end of this month.  That means that we should be seeing a finished version before mid-July.  I can't wait.  "My style is the bomb diggy bomb dee dang dee dang diggy diggy" - what a wicked line.

The Cherrytree House

There's always some kind of commotion going on around here at Cherrytree Records. We've got the best jobs in the world. I mean, where else can you come to work where great musicians visit on the regular to say hello, play some songs and just plain kick it? And all right here in our offices. So, we decided to start recording all of it and put it up online so you can see it too. It's all up on The Cherrytree House section of www.cherrytreerecords.com. The current episode, for instance, features Feist. And last time, The Fratellis came in.. It's all recorded and mixed live. No fixing anything. You know somebody's the real thing when they can walk into an office, pick up an instrument and throw down. Well, we're gonna capture each an every visit and keep putting them up on line in the form of future episodes. Hope you dig them. Please let us know your comments. Thanks.
